The Art of Water and Spirit
Modern Watercolor Paintings and acrylic by Tara Rochelle
Artistic Process
The Heart of My Modern Watercolor Paintings
Water is at the center of my creative journey. Its movement and unpredictability shape the expressive nature of my modern watercolor paintings, guiding each layer of pigment into something alive and intuitive. Working primarily in watercolor, ink, and Sumi-e, I draw inspiration from organic forms, soft washes, and natural light to create artwork that feels both ethereal and grounded.
Through mixed-media approaches, such as, collage, print textures, and experimental mark-making, I explore the balance between control and surrender. Brushes, palette knives, and even fingertips become instruments of discovery, allowing color to flow freely and reveal unexpected depth.
My work lives between abstraction and form, where atmosphere becomes emotion. Each piece, whether a watercolor portrait, figure, or landscape, invites reflection and a quiet pause to see the world through water and light.

The Shop
ARt for Everyday Life
Transforming my watercolor, ink, and acrylic paintings into meaningful, everyday pieces allows me to share art beyond the studio. Alongside fine art prints, my shop will feature artistic journals, illustrated planners, and paper goods, each created to bring color, reflection, and joy into daily life.
Blending my love of art and storytelling, every piece begins with the same creative spirit as my watercolor portraits, figures, and landscapes, then grows into something both beautiful and useful.
Each item is more than a product; it is a way to surround yourself with beauty and intention. Browse the collection and discover something that speaks to you—a print for your wall, a journal for your thoughts, a reminder to slow down and savor the beauty in everyday moments.

New Explorations
Keeping things Fresh
Art is a journey, and my acrylic work has become a place for bold exploration. While watercolor often invites me to soften, flow, and respond to the movement of water, acrylic allows me to build with more presence through texture, color, and visible brushwork.
In this evolving body of work, I am exploring two connected directions: textured acrylic paintings with layered, tactile surfaces, and expressive acrylic pieces shaped by bold color, prominent brushstrokes, and areas of color blocking. These paintings feel more grounded and physical, while still carrying the same sense of movement, atmosphere, and emotional presence that runs through all of my work.
I do not know exactly where this path will lead, but that is part of the beauty of the process. Each layer becomes a conversation between structure and instinct, control and discovery. If you would like to follow these new acrylic explorations as they unfold, you can find more behind-the-scenes process on social media or through my newsletter.
